Book Review | A Court of Thorns and Roses by Sarah.J.Maas

Bonjour, compadres!

(Okay, I don’t know French.)

If you know me at all, you’d know that I’m a hardcore Throne of Glass fan (did I just say hardcore? K.), I really like the series, it’s one of my favorites of all time, and Sarah.J.Maas is also one of favorite authors. So now you’re wondering why I’m just reading ACOTAR right now? Becauseeee financial crisis and then I kept putting it off and off, until recently I got hold of the book and read it! In a few words, I loved it, though I had a few issues and I still prefer the Throne of Glass series.

Title: A Court of Thorns and Roses

Author: Sarah.J.Maas

Pages: 416

Publication: May 5th 2015 by Bloomsbury Children’s

Genre: YA, Fantasy, Magic, (NA, I’m not sure ://)

When nineteen-year-old huntress Feyre kills a Fae in the woods, the Fae’s friend arrives at her house to demand retribution for it and dragged her to a treacherous magical land she only knows about from legends.

As she dwells on his estate, her feelings for Tamlin transform from icy hostility into a fiery passion that burns through every lie and warning she’s been told about the beautiful, dangerous world of the Fae. But an ancient, wicked shadow grows over the faerie lands, and Feyre must find a way to stop it… or doom Tamlin—and his world—forever.

“I was as unburdened as a piece of dandelion fluff, and he was the wind that stirred me about the world.”

Feyre: I really like Feyre as a character and reading from her perspective was fun. I like that she has her own mind, that she is strong and passionate (and she paints! I paint too. Okay, that was awkward.) But Feyre is hot-headed woman and she tried multiple times to get herself killed (not intentionally, just too passionate). Feyre is kinda the quirky, kept to herself characters, the kind that has a lot in her mind but only says so much, in other words, she is so like me that’s why I love her so much.

“You look . . . better than before.”
Was that a compliment? I could have sworn Lucien gave Tamlin an encouraging nod.
“And you hair is . . . clean.”

Tamlin: As for our male protagonist, the supposed hot sexy swoon-worthy high fae. I love Tamlin, don’t get me wrong, I love that he cares, he tries, and he’s just so good and perfect. Tamlin, whom I expected to be a cold-hearted High-Fae turned out to be very kind and deary. Did I mention I’m a sucker for romantic hot guys? Tho I feel like I don’t know much about Tamlin’s personality, and his relationship with Feyre was not enough, I don’t know I just want them to have more time together, do more things together, more closure because for now I am not aboard the ship because i can’t see them together yet!

Lucien: who is also a Fae and he resides with Tamlin too. I really like Lucien. I feel like he’s a mysterious character even though we were given a lot of back stories about him, I just feel like I can’t predict him yet. Sometimes he’s cool, sometimes he actually cares. Sometimes I think he’s hot and young, other times he sounds like my dad.

Rhysand: I love Rhysand. (I’m climbing the stairs to board the ship. I also sensed a love triangle. Is it Feysand? I’m completely on board.) I was never a fan of bad boys, but this time….. I don’t know why I like Rhysand so much even when he showed up only in the end. I hate the thing he did to Feyre, you know, when they went to the parties, but I love him when he’s like behind-the-scene Rhysand. Anyway, Rhysand is a High-Fae too, he came from another court, the night court, while Tamlin and Lucien were from the spring court.

“Rhysand stared at me for long enough that I faced him.
“Be glad of your human heart, Feyre. Pity those who don’t feel anything at all.”

Amarantha, the villian. I love to hate her! I mean she’s evil and her evilness makes sense so I love to hate her LOLOL. Amarantha basically controls the whole Fae kingdom, and she’s obviously not a good ruler therefore there’s war.

Then we have the world building, I loved it. I loved the magical creatures Sarah created, they were new and fascinating. I loved the world, that they are divided into courts, the Faeries. The world is unique and rich and big and just there’s a lot more to explore. I can’t wait.

The writing style is of course, perfection and captivating. Sarah’s writing is always very entertaining yet poetic, like very sentimental but easy to read at the same time. ❤ and sometimes she’s just giving you life lessons, your mom’s style.

“Don’t feel bad for one moment about doing what brings you joy.”

As for the plot as a whole, I loved it too. I felt it was slow at times, Feyre was always in the house, but because of the fascinating world, there was always fascinating things that caught me in the story. I also really liked the twist at the end, I didn’t at all expect the story to go in that direction, and it was a very interesting direction of course. I only had a problem with the main relationship, Feyre and Tamlin, I feel like it wasn’t so exciting and they need to be together more. Other than that, it was amazing.

“Because I wouldn’t want to die alone, I said, and my voice wobbled as I looked at Tamlin again, forcing myself to meet his stare.Because I’d want someone to hold my hand until the end, and awhile after that. That’s something everyone deserves, human or faerie.”

A Court of Thorns and Roses by Sarah. J.Maas is a retelling of the classic fairytale, Beauty and the Beast, with a twist with Faes. The story and the world were rich and you’ll be fascinated from the first page to the last to the characters and you’ll love the steamy romances!

“I threw myself into that fire, threw myself into it, into him, and let myself burn.”

Overall, I gave ACOTAR 4.5/5 stars.

I honestly have no idea what the sequel is going to be about, I just know that I can’t wait!

Happy Reading,

Book Review | The Final Empire (MISTBORN #1) by Brandon Sanderson

Hello, bookworms!

I’m back with a book review of The Final Empire by Brandon Sanderson. To say in a few words, I love this book. I don’t even know where to start and this is one of those books that I think you should go into it not knowing too much and experience all the amazingness firsthand, therefore, for the non-spoiler part of this review I will give you reasons as to why you should read this book and also why you shouldn’t.

You should read this book because:

  • It has amazing world-building. It’s set in this world where ash falls from the sky and mist roams the night. Like, doesn’t that make you want to pick this book up?
  • The characters! The characters are very well-developed. They are flawed and real, their wits and humor are my favorites! The relationships and friendships are to die for! The main character was Vin (that’s a very popular name in Cambodia btw, I know not less than ten people with that name lol), she was a Mistborn which means she can do magic by burning metals.
  • It will blow you away (Well, it did me). The plot was very engaging and even tho I wasn’t hooked until about 80 pages, once I was in, I never wanted to get back out! The storyline surprised me again and again, I could never guessed it! and so many plot twists! 😀
  • The magic I just mentioned! The magic system in this book was one of the best thing. It was very unique and cool. I love that even with that magic, they aren’t invincible and the magic too has its limits which make it even more real.

However, you shouldn’t pick this book up if:

  • You don’t want to experience all the awesomeness I just mentioned because you are still not convinced (whyyyy?) and you are intimidated by the size (I know I know but don’t be! It’s amazing from the first page till the end.)
  • You don’t want to be shattered into pieces (Because i did. I’ve heard that many people saw it coming but I didn’t and it was not okay. I still can not.)

“That’s the funny thing about arriving somewhere, Vin,” he said with a wink. “Once you’re there, the only thing you can really do is leave again.”

I gave this book a 4.5 out of 5 stars!

And that’s it for the non-spoiler part. And obviously I recommend you pick it up! 😀 I hope you enjoy it as I did 😀 and come back once you’ve read so we can discuss!

Spoilery Discussions: (You’ve been warned!)

This book started out amazingly. I was thrown into this world where ash fell from the sky, it’s divided into noblemen and skaas. And there’s magic too! I was completely sold.

Then we met Vin, an introverted, observant girl, I already liked her. Tho I prefer Kelsier’s POV.

The crew tho, they are all amazing, I can’t think of another time when I enjoyed scenes about 30-year-old guys even just having a chat.

‘He’s such a fine lad,’ Breeze noted, accepting the drink. ‘I barely even have to nudge him Allomantically. If only the rest of you ruffians were so accommodating.’

Spook frowned. ‘Niceing the not on the playing without.’

‘I have no idea what you just said, child,’ Breeze said. ‘So I’m simply going to pretend it was coherent, then move on.’

Kelsier rolled his eyes. ‘Losing the stress on the nip,’ he said. ‘Notting without the needing of care.’

‘What are you two babbling about?’ Breeze said testily.

‘Ever wasing the wish of having the have,’ Ham added with a smile. ‘Brighting the wish of wasing the not.’

Breeze turned to Dockson with exasperation. ‘I believe our companions have finally lost their minds, dear friend.’

Dockson shrugged. Then, with a perfectly straight face, he said, ‘Wasing not of wasing is.”

I loveeeee that scene, I was dying of laughter XD

Now let’s talk about the ending.

I didn’t realize how attached I was to the story and the character until Kelsier died. and that easy? For all that he has one? Ughhh. That scene. How did people see it coming? I was not okay. I would have broken down if I was not reading in a cafe at that time. I thought that maybe this was another plan of his, faking his own death for whatever I don’t care I just want to know that he didn’t die for real. I continue to read for about 20 pages more and there was still no sign of him. UGHHH.

The ending was very surprising, with Marsh turned into the Inquisitors, and The Lord Ruler was actually Rashek. All of those blew me away, but I didn’t enjoy it as much as I want to after Kelsier was gone. :(((

But overall, The Final Empire has become one of my favorites book now. I definitely recommend this book!

And that’s all I have at the moment! Feel free to comment down if you want to discuss!

Thanks for reading! 😀

Book Review & Discussion | WINTER by Marissa Meyer

Greetings, bookworms!

This is my first book review of the year! Yayyy!

So Winter, the fourth and final installment in the epic sci-fi, fairytale-retelling saga, The Lunar Chronicles. It is very sad to see this amazing series come to a close but at the same time I’m glad to see it was wrapped up very nicely. 😀

Title: Winter (The Lunar Chronicles #4)

Author: Marissa Meyer

Pages: 824

Publication: November 10th 2015 by Feiwel and Friends

Source: Bought

Genre: YA, Fantasy, Sci-fi, Fairytale-Retellings

There will be spoilers for the first three books of the series in this review so read at your own risk (;D) and if you haven’t picked up this series yet, what are you waiting for? Go read it and love it and come back here to discuss about it! 😀

Winter is a retelling of Snow White with our main character, Princess Winter.

The story opens with Winter on Luna trying to fight her evil step mother mentally and also the Luna sickness that hallucinate her because she refuses to use her Luna gift to manipulate people. Winter also had to fight with her heart, her childhood best friend, Jacin, and her will be in danger if people know they have feelings for each other

Meanwhile, aboard the stolen spaceship, the Rampion, Cinder and her crews have planned to tell the people of Luna the truth that their lost Princess Selene is back to fight Levana for her (Selene’s) throne.

The moment I read the first page of this book, I was hooked. It’s probably Marissa Meyer’s writing style or the familiar design format of this book or maybe it was something else but I felt like I was home. I know that’s weird and dramatic but there’s no other way to describe that.

There were many twists and turns and awesomeness in this one, it was 824 pages and as you might have heard a thousand times that there wasn’t a dull page, it’s absolutely true. I still spent about a week to finish this giant but it was definitely worth all the ravings and five-star ratings. This series is definitely one of my favorites, one that will live with me years after this 😀

But somehow there were scenes that I thought went too smoothly and there were certain things I wished for it to happen but didn’t therefore Cress, the third book, remains to be my favorite in this series. That doesn’t mean this book was not great because it was very very amazing.

I rate this book 4.5 out of 5 stars.

My favorite thing about this series is the character. This series have got one of the most awesome set of characters ever written.

Princess Winter is the Luna people’s favorite which made her evil step-mother, Levana, despises her to the point that she wants Winter dead. Winter had to fight with Levana and her hallucinations that make her crazy because she refuses to use her Luna gifts to manipulate people like her power-drunk step-mother,  she also had to fight with her heart from staying close with her childhood best friend, Jacin, because living with Levana, the people you loved could be used against you at all time. Winter, beautiful inside and out despite the scars across her face, with her courage, wits and craziness, she was one of my favorites.

“The young princess was as beautiful as daylight. She was more beautiful even than the queen herself.”

“Winter trailed her fingers along her harness and sang to herself, “The Earth is full tonight, tonight, and the wolves all howl, aa-ooooooooooh…”

And Jacin, always want to protect his princess, it was all so sweet. Jacin was a guard in the palace, even tho Jacin wasn’t my favourite character, I really like the aspect that he cares for Winter so much, he promises to protect her with his life, he’s like the safest place that Winter can go to, she’s all that he cares about.

“So much importance pressed into so few words. It was just like Jacin.”

Then we have Cinder, the humble cyborg that was with us from the beginning. Cinder, she was scared and she doubt herself if she can be queen if she will succeed or if she was just leading all of them to death, but she still had courage and compassion to do the right thing and so she was brave. Of course I love Cinder, her POV is my favorite to read from. But because of that I feel like it’s kinda unfair, this book is supposed to be centered on Princess Winter but we’ve got more of Cinder’s POV. Not that it’s a big issue tho 🙂

“Cinder needed them. All of them. She shut her eyes and reminded herself to be brave.”

“Citizens of Luna, I ask that you stop what you’re doing to listen to this message. My name is Selene Blackburn.”

“Help me. Fight for me. And I will be the first ruler in the history of Luna who will also fight for you.”

(Cinder’s message scene was another one of my favorite, I love that she sounded like queen and strong even tho Kai wrote the script XD)

Kai too is not my favorite character but his relationship with Cinder developed very nicely in this book and it got me swooning for them. Kai was forced to marry Levana despite his hatred for the evil queen, so he tried to help as much as he can since he was being watched all the time.

We’re getting to my favourite couple XD and that is none other than Cress and Thorne. These two is just so perfect and cute together. They got me chuckled and giggled like crazy with all the misunderstandings and stuffs. I really like that we really get to see how brilliant Cress was with technology stuffs. She can hack everything and she’s just so cool.

Thorne our captain got his vision back and he’s just as hilarious and sarcastic like before. Thorne definitely light up the mood of the crew (or at least me the reader because sometimes he actually stirs up the anger in the crew XD). and need I talk about Thorne and Cress? because Thorne and Cress Thorne and Cress Thorne and Cress Thorne and Cress are perfecttttttt. They are definitely in my top favourites. 😀

“See that eye roll? It translates to, ‘How am I possibly keeping my hands off of you, Captain?” – from Thorne

“Scarlet and I are going to start a missing-fingers club. We might let Cinder be an honorary member.” – from Thorne

“She definitely has a crush on you. It’s about the size of Jupiter.” – to Cress

And then we have my least favorite couple :///. Scarlet and Wolf. I really liked the second book because it was when we got to know Thorne and all that but I never really loved Scarlet and Wolf’s story. It’s all so sweet with the Alpha male and female thing tho. Scarlet‘s POV was a bit boring to read from, Wolf’s too. But I really like Scarlet’s friendship with Winter, Scarlet was so cold and Winter was so friendly and tho they continued to be that way, we can see that Scarlet also cared for Winter deeply. As for Wolf, I thought he was a goner at the end, there was no coming back but luckily Wolf was still Wolf.

“Winter reached over and pulled the pilot’s harness over Scarlet’s head. “Safety first, Scarlet-friend. We are fragile things.”

How can I not talk about Iko? Iko’s friendship with Cinder was one of the most remarkable thing in this book, like they are android and cyborg but who cares? They love each other ❤ and their friendship was beautiful. Iko too was so funny and she helped a lot with the revolution. Even tho she lost a few limps in the end, l she knew Cinder, the best mechanics, will be able to fix her ❤

“Yeah, but broken isn’t the same as unfixable.” -IKO

Spoilery Discussion: (You’ve been warned)

Things first start to pick up when we got Cinder’s POV on the Rampion, I love the atmosphere when the crew was together, they were so funny and they all seem so close.

So, Cinder was like 16 or 17 right? Considering her age and also the crew that they are just normal teenagers, it’s pretty realistic with the plans that they came up with, it was pretty good but still I really wished it was more brilliant, more mind-blowing. There were so many flaws in their plans but that’s why things were played out this way and I’m quiet satisfied with ‘this way’.

Another part that I was not too happy about was when they went to get the antidote, like Kai did A LOT for that cure, he married Levana and everything, but it could be retrieved this easily? It was kinda funny. There weren’t many obstacles and they got the antidote to save Winter and the people in that village.

Last problem is the ending, it did wrapped up nicely tho I wished it was more than that. I need something more mind-blowing (again). It wasn’t too bad tho, I was just expecting more.

Moving on to my favorite scenes, I love when Cress and Thorne were together lol and also when the crew was together.

“Did you see any rice in there? Maybe we could fill Cinder’s head with it.”
Everyone stared at him.
“You know, to…absorb the moisture, or something. Isn’t that a thing?”
“We’re not putting rice in my head.”

I love this scene so much, it was so funny I was laughing my head off XD

“They’re the first crew I’ve ever had and most of them even call me Captain. I’m going to miss them.”

I also love Thorne’s sentimental moments XD. And his awkward, not to mention very weird, confession to Cress, but it showed that he had thought about it a lot XD And the Luna girl who made herself look like Cress and Thorne said he loved her because he thought she was Cress and awwwwww I died. I was hugging the book and smiling. (Please don’t think I’m crazy. I’m a sucker for things like that.)

I really like the excerpt, book 1…, book 2…, and stuffs. Especially book 4, with the apple thing, it was so creepy but I was busy thinking it was so cool that I wasn’t so scared.

How do you feel about Levana’s true appearance tho? I didn’t know it was that bad :/// and everything that ended with Levana, so she was shot by Cinder with a gun? I feel like she should have suffered more than that (okayy I’m evil).

And the ending, that last sentence, I told you I’m a sucker for fairytale romance like this and that last word, I died again. ❤ I read it over and over again and I love that last sentence ❤

“Oh, I fully intend to form an alliance with Luna.” Kai glanced at the cyborg foot again. “I just intend to put a different queen on the throne first.”

“Leaning forward, Cinder spoke very clearly. “I have a computer in my brain,” she said. “So while I’m not going to tell you that I am the smartest or, by any means, the most experienced person in this room, I would suggest that no one use my youth to believe that I am also ignorant.”

Cinder was so sassy.

And also the last scene in the throne room, with Thorne controlled by Levana and everything. It was so scary and ironic at the same time, Thorne punched Cinder and kept saying ‘That’s not me’ and he stabbed Cress in the stomach! Like whattttt what if she… was a severe wound, but she also shot Thorne’s finger, I guess they were even then lol and they all survived in the end.

Everybody was in that throne room except Jacin and Winter and that’s the only thing I would change in this book because I wish Winter was there too. Winter has every right to confront Levana and defeat her too. She has been living with the queen and endured a lot of horrible things that Levana did to her and I think she should have been there in that room. It was all very sad for Winter, we don’t know if she recovered after everything, she lost her mind by using her gift and she might never be ‘okay’ again after that. It was a very sad ending for her.

Also I’ve always thought that it would end with Cinder appointed Winter the queen of Luna or maybe a leader and Cinder herself will be an ambassador instead because that way she will be able to go to Earth and stay with Kai.

And Scarlet and Wolf at the end, and Scarlet calling her friend on Earth was also very funny, it was totally out of nowhere like LOL.

And did you noticed the guard, Kinney, and Iko, like…..they might….? XD

That was all I could think of at the moment. I really love this series and would love to fangirl about it 😀 so definitely comment your favorite scene and everything if you want to 😀

I know this a very a long post. It took me days to complete this review because i just couldn’t gather my thoughts and opinions and I didn’t know how to start but this is it so thank you for reading, I hope you enjoyed it 😀

I was tagged by Aldii from PerfectioninBooks to do this tag, so thank you Aldii, you are so nice 🙂

I decided to choose a few books to answer the questions because I don’t want to be so  repetitive especially with the first question, my answers had always been Celaena Sardothien. ://

The books I chose are:

  • Red Queen by Victoria Aveyard
  • Falling Kingdoms by Morgan Rhodes
  • AngelFall by Susan Ee
  • Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire
  • Lola and the boy next door by Stephanie Perkins

Hop on, friends! Let’s go for a ride 😀

Who is the best kick-ass character?

Definitely Penryn from Angelfall.

Which character do you most dislike?

Magnus from Falling Kingdoms. :///// How do people love Magnus in this book? He prolly improves in the sequel? but for this one, I am not a fan.

If you could date any fictional character, who would it be and why?

If you could change a character in any way what would it be?

I would definitely change Mare from Red Queen to not be so stupid. -.-

What character to you made all the wrong choices that didn’t add anything to the book?

Cleo from Falling Kingdoms. Just UGHHHH. So glad there was a glimpse of improvement at the end.

Out of the five books you have chosen which character was the best villain whom you love to hate?

I love to hate Voldemort XD

Favorite side-kick character with the most heart?

Paige, Penryn’s sister, from Angelfall. :(((

What is your favorite fictional romantic relationship?

Love when Penryn and Raffe were together ❤

What character did you think was the strongest?

I already chose Penryn, so I’m going to say Hermione Granger for this one 😀

Best protagonist?

Lola was flawed but so real and I would love to be her friends after I’ve been inside her head XD

Who do you tag?

This tag was so much fun and I want to you to have the fun too!

Thanks for much reading! Have a nice day 😀

Warmth and Coffee,

Kimsiang @ theSpinesBreaker

*swings my sword around as greeting*

Like the thing people do with swords? :///

There. See?

I’m here today with the new trending tag on BookTube which I was also tagged by Aldii from PerfectioninBooks. This tag was created by Morgan Rhodes, the author of the Falling Kingdoms series in addition to the fourth book in said series, ‘Frozen Tides’ which will be released on the 15th of this month!

I have only read the first book in the series (review here) and I am not quiet a fan tho I want to continue on with this series.

But let’s conquer some kingdoms!

1. In Mytica, there are constant betrayals and you can’t trust anyone! Which book character would you trust to be your sidekick on this adventure?

For a loyal companion, I’m choosing Dorian Havilliard ❤

2. You will come across many who want you dead in Mytica, so you need to be ready to fight. What kind of warrior are you?

I’ll be the kind of warrior that can’t even hold a sword and die in the end :/// Tho I want to be like Hermione Granger, have the brain and the courage 😀

3. What fantasy world would you like to conquer?

I think I would conquer the Wizarding World because other fantasy worlds like in Throne of Glass involves lots of fightings and all that, and I’m pretty sure I’d do better with wizards duels. :////

4. Which fictional character would you choose to rule by your side?

I am choosing Celaena Sardothien because who else? She’s the perfect one for this. (Tho I would pee my pant just standing near her :///)

5. Who would you throw into the dungeon?

DOLORES JANE UMBRIDGE. Umbridge. Umbitch. I don’t even care. I just finished rereading Order of Phoenix and I can not. I also would love to throw the Commandment from An Ember in the Ashes (saying this with full evil smile). And the King of Adarlan too (Dorian’s father I mean).

6. Who gets stabbed in the back?

Aww I already chose Umbridge? So sadddd. Well, I choose….wtf…..can’t think of anyone. QUEEN LEVENA YESSS. STAB HER IN THE BACKKK. and Caleb, the worst brother in the history of bad brothers. -.-

7. What elemental magic would you choose to wield and why? (Fire,Air,Water,Earth)

I want to control air XD Like The Last Air Bender XD

And that’s it for this tag! It was so much fun!

Thanks for reading! Also, feel free to consider yourself tagged if you are interested in this tag! 😀

Happy Reading and Merry Christmas,

Book Review | AN EMBER IN THE ASHES by Sabaa Tahir

Hello lovely strangers ❤

This is first review post of the month-actually my first ever post and i’m feeling so bad that it took about a week to actually post anything ://

But here I am! An Ember In the Ashes which was recommended to me a million of times, and I am a bit disappointed honestly.

Title: An Ember in the Ashes (An Ember in the Ashes #1)

Author: Sabaa Tahir

Pages: 446 pages

Publication: April 28th 2015 by Razorbill

Source: Bought

Genre: YA, Dystopia, Fantasy

Ratings: Plot: 4/5
World Building: 3.5/5
Characters: 4.5/5
Writing Style: 4.5/5
Total: 4 stars

Plot & World Building: The events that happened in this book was mostly set in a kingdom called “The Empire”, where there were racism between the scholars and the Martials (the one who won the war years ago). There was a school, military academy, in this world called Blackcliff which trained assassins or murderers, “The Masks”. Laia (a scholar), was sent into Blackcliffe to disguise as a slave and be a spy for the Resistance (Scholars rebels) in return to the Resistance saving her brother, her only living relative left, from prison. Elias, a Mask in training and soon to graduate, had always want to ‘desert‘ his status as a Mask because he felt not that different from all the slaves/scholars in his kingdom, having to serve the violence and brutal Commandment that is his mother, having to kill innocence, so he wanted freedom. But before Elias had left, Laia came to Blackcliff, and there was now trial which purpose was to find a new emperor for their kingdom. Elias decided to stay as someone promised him real freedom if he passed all the trials.
I think the plot and storyline was okay. What I don’t like was the world, during the trials, so many innocence and friends were killed for no reason. I hate that. I know it was supposed to show the readers how brutal and dangerous this world is but but but I see no reason why why why that third trial had to be like that. Ugh. Also The Commandment is like Umbridge’s twins, she’s just as horrible. Ugh.

And there’s sort of a twist in the end that made me very excited in the direction this book is heading.

Characters: As for the characters, I like both our main MC and the other supporting characters as well, I think they played their roles well, they were different distinctable characeters and so on. As I mentioned, I think Laia and Elias were great. Laia from a naive and coward girl to a strong, independant woman. I actually like that she was weak and scared at first, because who wouldn’t? If she just came out strong, I wouldn’t have liked her as much. And she and Elias both have humor which I love because it would have been sooo dull, I wouldn’t have finished.

“I’d rather die than live with no mercy, no honor, no soul.”

Elias, I already liked him because he had the sense of humor, he knew what he wanted but tho I hate that he couldn’t choose between Helene, his best friend who he sort of romantically involved with, and Laia. Helene, Elias‘s best friend, I think her characters was very well-developed, she was a great character tho the sticking to the rules part wasn’t fun, but I can’t wait to see more of her in the next novels when she has superpower like that.

“There are two kinds of guilt: the kind that
drowns you until you’re useless, and the kind that fires your soul to purpose.”

Other than that, I didn’t really connect with the other characters, for instance, Izzi, I think she was okay? she was just there so? I forgot all the characters’ names ugh clearly this book wasn’t memorable enough. Iam trying to find the name of Laia’s other love interest. I didn’t connect or swoon over him either. And yep there were love triangles in this book, two set of them. I’ve never had a problem with love triangles, not a trope that I mind, tho I wish in this book it didn’t happen.

Writing Style: It was the best thing, I have no complaints. I am so glad this wasn’t in third person but rather dual-perspective, just perfect.

“Three thousand bodies swing forward, three thousand pairs of boots snap together, three thousand backs jerk as if yanked straight by a puppeteer’s hand. In the ensuing silence, you could hear a tear drop.”

Get what I mean? lol ❤

“Life is made of so many moments that mean nothing. Then one day, a single moment comes along to define every second that comes after. Such moments are tests of courage, of strength.”

Overall, I gave this book 4 stars, I have to say I was a bit disappointed. I mean I don’t know what I expected but I don’t think this lives up to all the hypes. It wasn’t bad for sure but it kinda made me question if I read the same books as others because I really couldn’t see the “IT BLEW ME AWAY. THIS WAS SUPER GOOD WOW I NEED THE NEXT BOOK”. I am excited for the sequel tho 🙂

Thank you for reading and I’ll hopefully see you in my next post.

Happy Reading,

I read it! YES! And my life is complete, well not really, Sarah.J.Maas still have controls over the next two books. PLEASE DONT KILL THEM OFF. I WILL TRADE MY SOUL FOR THEIR LIFE TT

As you know, or if you don’t-you know it now, QOS is the fourth book in the Throne of Glass series by Sarah.J.Maas. If you haven’t started on this series, what the heck are you even doing in your life? If you are reading this review for reassures if the books are worth a try, YES IT IS. It’s the best thing in the whole wide world. For me.

To keep it short: Love the plot. Love the writing style. Love the characters! OTP!!!! #Rowaelin

To be more detailed:

  • The plot:

After Celaena/Aelin was sent to Wendlyn and met the most amazing human creature ever walks on earth, Rowan, she came back to Rifthold for revenge, on both Arobynn and the King of Adarlan. Her journey, of rescuing Aedion, her revenge on both monsters were action-packed and amazing of course, and other awesome stuffs was just spectacular, there are even more surprises, magic, actions.

  • The Writing Style:

I love every single word. It was beautiful and entertaining. There was a quotsy effect to the writing, like I wanted to highlight so many stuffs! I love the humor in this book! However tense the situation was, there were still humors which were just perfect.

  • The characters:

*bows to Sarah.J.Maas for creating Rowan, Aedion, Aelin, Dorian, Lysansra and all the awesome people*

Aelin is like my ultimate female character crush right now. She’s so badass and I lurrrvvv her. I love her sass, but we also see her grow up, her murdering plans/combat skills were brilliant, also how she thought for the better of her people and friends, not making all the wrong choices anymore. I can really see her as a queen.

Did I mention Rowan? Did I mention Rowaelin? Seriously I totally agree that the next books in this series need to be NAs.

Dorian, my love. I CANT EVEN. I love Dorian even more than Rowan, from the beginning and ofc until the end.

Sarah tortured me with those parts that were from Dorian POV and the Valg prince inside him. WHY DID YOU DO THAT? Thanks the wyrd, he survived.

I hate Chaol for the 2/3 of the book, then he was okay again. I still don’t get why he treated Aelin like that. Sorry to all Chaolena fans, for me I don’t really like him from the beginning so… but it still bothered me since the conflict or sth came out of nowhere.

I like Lysandra a lot. Her badassness was perfect and her friendship with Aelin is just so awesome! I’m really glad there’s a female companion for Aelin. I’ve heard that she appeared in the Assassin’s Blade before this, so I recommend you read the Assassin’s Blade before reading QOS. Even though I haven’t myself lol. It’s not just Lysandra part but I noticed many other references from TAB even though I’ve only read two out of the five novellas. So I think you should read the Assassin’s Blade first!

In this book, we still have Manon chapters which I enjoyed even more than the last book. I found her stories and her character very interesting and I love that there were more depths/informations to her life and the people around her.

In Manon’s side of story, there was an introduction of a new character, or not so new if you remember her from HOF, (which I didn’t, I just knew lol) it was Elide Lochan who was the daughter of Lady Marion? (I’m not so sure what her name is lol) I just know that Lady Marion sacrificed herself told Aelin to run when Aelin’s parents were murdered? as I remembered lol. So there were a few chapters from Elide point of view and I found them so boring. I totally skimmed through those chapters, and I don’t really care about her throughout the story, tho I would love to see her reunion with Aelin.

And a brand new character, Nesryn Faliq, a city guard and Chaol’s friend. I like Nesryn characteristic but I wasn’t attached to her or anything. There were some scenes she was just there and didn’t shine. There were also scenes I really like her attitude.

And for Aedion. I didn’t fall for him the third book but now-he is my bae and you can’t take him away from me. Aedion added so much more to the book, and I loved him!

Also I just want to add that the bromance, Chaol and Dorian, Aedion and Rowan, were so strong that I died.

And now on to the spoilery section. There are quiet a few things I want to talk/fangirl about.

Spoiler Alert if you haven’t read QOS, please go read it and come back so we can discuss!

The first issue is of course the relationship/hatredship between our queen and our captain guard. Even though my ship is not Chaolena, it’s abit confusing and I felt like I missed something. and everytime they meet and argue, it’s just wrong?

The second issue is that Aelin and Dorian killed the king of Adarlan off a bit easily? like it was so long until they finally face him but the killing was so short and easy? I want him to fight back but they defeated him and he died a long painful death. Tho I was having a hard attack! THE KING KNEW ABOUT CELAENA AND AELIN! like it felt so dangerous! At that time this song was on and it has the tune of a eating heart which made me even more scared and excited! (it’s sth by Of monsters and men, I’m not sure if the song is Empire or Crystals)

And when Arobynn put the ring on Aelin. I can’t believe she was all prepared! I love Aelin so much!

Thats all the problems I have with this book except that last part, lets fangirl!

First, #Rowaelin #Rowaelin #Rowaelin.

I’m kinda stuck between wanting their friendship to remain forever and ever with no romance but then they match together so well! Their chemistry works well for both friendship and romantic relationship!

ME when Aelin nearly beheaded Dorian while rescuing Aedion:

I’m also very interested in Kaltain’s appearance in this book, She defeated a Valg rince inside her by herself! She’s just so awesome! I wish her Shadowfire didn’t burn her up as well in the end so that we’ll get to see more of her power in the next books!

On to the underground scene! I love history! And that Erawan! I can’t believe it’s actually Duke Perrington. Like I was wondering from the beginning that why did the king trust him so much since you know the king was a monster and didn’t trust anyone, and he seemed so close with that Duke.

That action scene between Aelin and Manon tho. I was quiet surprised at how good Manon’s fighting was because you know Aelin killed Baba Yellowlegs who is a Matron! And that was even before she was trained with our Fae prince! But it seemed like Aelin’s and Manon’s skills matched. :///

Also what is it you think about Manon’s gold eyes that made the Valg prince inside Dorian so scared of her that Dorian could come out at that moment? And when Manon flew to Rifthold to tell Aelin about Dorian *screams because of happiness

And ship Manorian? is that their ship? I’m not aboard the ship yet but we’ll see in the next book!

Talking about ships, Lysandra and Aedion…I can imagine!!!! SAIL SAIL SAIL. As for Nesryn and Chaol, I’m abit nonchalant about that? Idk they can do whatever.

Oh and this killing Arobynn and switching his will thing was awesome! I was grinning in satisfaction the whole time! Lysandra YASS!

The ending too! Aelin returned to Terrasen! like WTF? GIMME THE NEXT BOOK!

In conclusion, there were a few confusing WTF moments, but nevertheless considering the sassness and enjoyment level were 999.99, it made up for all the flaws! I can’t help but love the characters and plot!

5/5 stars ofc!

Happy Reading,
