[Book Tag] Mid-Year Book Freak Out Tag (2016)

Hello, readers!

This will sound absolutely crazy, but we’re more than half-way through 2016. I feel like I’m wasting my life and I’m literally running out of time. (Dramatic moments lol). I really have a lot I want to acheive and seeing others doing great in their lives just makes me super jealous. As for the bookish side of things, I have only finished 20 books (out of my 80 books reading goal) this year so far, I’m still excited to do this tag and see my answers 😀

Without further ado, let’s get started!

Best book you’ve read so far in 2016

I had a pretty hard time answering this first question already lol, not because I have too many favourites but it’s the opposite. I haven’t read a book that just blew me away into pieces completely. But The Final Empire by Brandon Sanderson is definitely high on the list.

My review here.

img_1353Best sequel you’ve read so far in 2016

I have only read sequels to one series this year and that is The Mortal Instruments by Cassandra Clare. I’m currently on book four, City of Fallen Angels. So far, my favourite installment in this epic series is book three, City of Glass. I lurrrrvvvvv that book. Simon is my bae. ❤

New release you haven’t read yet, but want to

ACOMAF, The Unexpected Everything, The Crown, Lady Midnight, I really can go on forever 🙂29559052

Most anticipated release for the second half of the year

I know you expected this, Empire of Storms by Sarah.J.Mass.

I recently uploaded a post dedicated to this topic, give it a check out here.

Biggest disappointment

The Next Together by Lauren James. I was so excited for this book because everything in the synopsis sounded right up my alley, but sadly, I didn’t really enjoy it.

Full review here.

Biggest surprise

The Rest of Us just Live here by Patrick Ness. I’ve heard a lot of disappointed reviews about this book, and as someone who has never read anything by Patrick Ness, I was pretty nervous getting into it. Who knew, this book actually got me out of my reading slump at the time! I really couldn’t get into this book in the first chapter but it gets better chapters by chapters. I love the simplicity of Patrick Ness’s writings and the characters are amazing.

Favorite new author (Debut or new to you)

This author is probably only new to me hah, my new favorite author is Cassandra Clare, the author of The Mortal Instruments, The Infernal Devices, Lady Midnight,…

Newest fictional crush

Simon Lewis from TMI. Simon is bae. He just is.

Newest favorite character

Isabelle Lightwood from TMI as well. Isabelle is so badass and sweet and I just love her 🙂

Book that made you cry

None. I mean I’m not a crying reader. But right after I read Me before You by JoJo Moyes, I was feeling pretty bad already so I went and watched the movie trailer and I almost cried, like I could feel it rush up a bit lol.

Book that made you happy

November 9 by Colleen Hoover. You’d know how much I loved this book if you read my review here lol.

Favorite book to film adaptation you saw this year.

I have only seen Me Before You, which I didn’t really like. Honestly, I felt nothing watching the movie, when the book is like one of my top contemporary reads.

Favorite review you’ve written this year.

The shame is now here. I’ve been absent from my blog 70% of the time and obviously I haven’t written that many reviews. But let me see…

Most beautiful book you’ve bought so far this year (or received)

Illuminae by Amie Kaufman and Jay Kristoff.

What books do you need to read by the end of the year?

I really want to finish The Mortal Instruments, The Infernal Devices, and Lady Midnight, basically the whole saga 😀

And that’s the tag! If you want to do this tag too, please don’t hesitate to consider yourself tagged by me!

Thank you so much for reading. I hope you have a nice day!

Happy Reading,Kimsiang @ Stories + Brushes

Book Tag | 12 DAYS OF XMAS book tag

I know XMas is like over but I hope this is not too late because XMAS is all year round if you believe so and I do 😉 Christmas is a state of mind 😉

So I’m here with this Christmas book tag which I wasn’t tagged but is just too cool for me to pass 😉

Let’s roll!

On the first day of Christmas, my true love sent to me: a partridge in a pear tree.

The partridge stood alone in the pear tree. What is your favourite stand alone?

Come on you can’t say only one favorite it’s not fair. I’ll choose Emmy and Oliver by Robin Benway. This book was so good and not many people have heard of it and that needs to be fixed. Pick this sucker up! I have a review here.

On the second day of Christmas, my true love sent to me: two turtle doves.

Love is in the air! Who is your one true pairing?

Cress and Thorne from The Lunar Chronicles! OTP OTP OTP <3<3<3<3

On the third day of Christmas, my true love sent to me: Three French Hens.

In the spirit of threes, what is the best trilogy you have read?

I have to cheat a little and say The Lunar Chronicles here, I know it’s a four books series but I lurrrvvvv the first three (I’m also reading the fourth one- Winter which is kicking asses). I love how each book focuses on different characters but they all intervened in the end ❤ And the characters are awesome.

On the fourth day of Christmas, my true love sent to me: four calling birds.

Since series usually consist of four or more books, what is your favourite series?

HARRY POTTER IS LIFE. This is cliché but who cares XD

On the fifth day of Christmas, my true love sent to me: five golden rings.

One ring to rule them all! Who is your Favorite Villain/Antagonist?

Levana! I’m currently reading Winter and she’s just *scream face emoji* She’s so brutal, she kills alotttt of people just because she can.

On the sixth day of Christmas, my true love sent to me: six geese a laying.

Creation is a beautiful thing. What is your favourite world/world-building?

I want to choose the Wizarding World 😦

I was reading The Final Empire by Brandon Sanserson (Winter got in the way) and it was pretty cool 😉

On the seventh day of Christmas, my true love sent to me: seven swans a swimming.

Who needs seven swans when all it takes is one good animal sidekick? Who’s your favourite animal sidekick?

Obviously Hedwiggggg ❤

On the eighth day of Christmas, my true love sent to me: eight maids a milking.

Milk is so 18th century. Which book or series takes beverages/food to a whole new level?

I have no idea :/// I’m sorry but I gotta skip :///

On the ninth day of Christmas my true love sent to me: nine ladies dancing.

Dancing is just one skill of a Lady! Who is your favourite kickass female lead?

Obviously, Celaena Sardothien. Like just read the series to know more okay?

On the tenth day of Christmas my true love sent to me: ten lords a leaping.

How about your favourite leading lad?

Again Celaena Sardothien from Throne of Glass. She is da boss ❤

On the eleventh day of Christmas my true love sent to me: eleven pipes piping.

What is your favourite book or bookish thing with musical influence? (It can be about music, reference music a lot etc.)

I don’t have anyyyy. Maybe The Selection series? America Singer is a Singer?

On the twelfth day of Christmas my true love sent to me: 12 drummers drumming.

Drum roll please…what is your favourite read of this year?

Why would you give me a hard time -.- I’ve been avoiding that question. You guessed it- It’s QUEEN OF SHADOWS <33333

And that’s it for this post! Thank you for reading! Again, Merry Christmas 😉

Love and candies,

Hello all my amigos,

I’m still alive 😀 I barely made it out of the exam field alive tho :///

I was very recently tagged by Aldii from Perfection in Books to do the Bookish Alphabet tag. Thank you so much Aldii, you da best 🙂

The Rules:

Pick a book that is on your shelf or one that you have read in the past and fill out each letter of the Alphabet. The idea is to use books that you have either read or that are on your TBR list.

I’m so sorry that I have to skip X because I just couldn’t think of any book that started with that letter :///

But all in all, it was fun tho pretty time consuming because of all the research.

Btw, click on the title to go to the book’s Goodreads pages, and the review to go to my review of the book ofc 😀

And that’s about it for this tag! I’ll see you next time 😀

Merry Christmas,

*swings my sword around as greeting*

Like the thing people do with swords? :///

There. See?

I’m here today with the new trending tag on BookTube which I was also tagged by Aldii from PerfectioninBooks. This tag was created by Morgan Rhodes, the author of the Falling Kingdoms series in addition to the fourth book in said series, ‘Frozen Tides’ which will be released on the 15th of this month!

I have only read the first book in the series (review here) and I am not quiet a fan tho I want to continue on with this series.

But let’s conquer some kingdoms!

1. In Mytica, there are constant betrayals and you can’t trust anyone! Which book character would you trust to be your sidekick on this adventure?

For a loyal companion, I’m choosing Dorian Havilliard ❤

2. You will come across many who want you dead in Mytica, so you need to be ready to fight. What kind of warrior are you?

I’ll be the kind of warrior that can’t even hold a sword and die in the end :/// Tho I want to be like Hermione Granger, have the brain and the courage 😀

3. What fantasy world would you like to conquer?

I think I would conquer the Wizarding World because other fantasy worlds like in Throne of Glass involves lots of fightings and all that, and I’m pretty sure I’d do better with wizards duels. :////

4. Which fictional character would you choose to rule by your side?

I am choosing Celaena Sardothien because who else? She’s the perfect one for this. (Tho I would pee my pant just standing near her :///)

5. Who would you throw into the dungeon?

DOLORES JANE UMBRIDGE. Umbridge. Umbitch. I don’t even care. I just finished rereading Order of Phoenix and I can not. I also would love to throw the Commandment from An Ember in the Ashes (saying this with full evil smile). And the King of Adarlan too (Dorian’s father I mean).

6. Who gets stabbed in the back?

Aww I already chose Umbridge? So sadddd. Well, I choose….wtf…..can’t think of anyone. QUEEN LEVENA YESSS. STAB HER IN THE BACKKK. and Caleb, the worst brother in the history of bad brothers. -.-

7. What elemental magic would you choose to wield and why? (Fire,Air,Water,Earth)

I want to control air XD Like The Last Air Bender XD

And that’s it for this tag! It was so much fun!

Thanks for reading! Also, feel free to consider yourself tagged if you are interested in this tag! 😀

Happy Reading and Merry Christmas,

Shake hands? Sure.

Another tag which I was tagged again by my lovely blogger friend, Aldii @ Perfection in Books. Thanks so much, Aldii.

Let’s get on it!

Opening Credits: Favorite Childhood book

Well, what did you expect? XD I remember it was a birthday gift from my sister when I was 9 or 10 I guess. Yep, I was still reading children’s books when I was 10 -.-

Waking up: A book that got you out of a reading slump.

It’s like magic ❤

School: A book you had to read for school that you ended up loving.

None. I’m sorry but none of them impressed me yet. Well, I really liked Great Expectations by Charles Dickens tho.

Falling In Love: An author you love so much you want to read all of their books.

Fight: Book with the best action sequences.

Read it to find out more. 😉

Break up: A book or series you didn’t finish and do not intend to finish.

I’m in the unpopular opinion group here but really. After I finished the first book, I have absolutely no intention of picking up the rest of the series. I didn’t hate it, not at all but it just wasn’t right.

Hanging With Friends: Book you think everyone else should read.

Since I’ve already mentioned Throne of Glass, this time I’ll go with….

Any Morgan Matson’s books, really. I don’t really like this cover so I can’t wait for the new one (I think they are recreating all her books’ covers? Like they just released the new edition of Second Chance Summer, the one that quiet goes along with Since You’ve been gone and it’s gorgeous) So Can’t wait for the new cover for this one. 😀

Breakdown: Book that seriously affected you/had you crying your eyes out.

I’ve almost never cried because of a book. There’s one recently tho…

Roadtrip: You favorite series (more than 3 books).

After HP and Throne of Glass, The Lunar Chronicles is a must read.

My copy of Winter hasn’t arrived, whyyyyyy. Please give it to meeeee. I’ll be a good girl, I promise TT

Flashback: Your favorite book from 5 years ago.

5 years ago I was still playing Barbie and watch Barbie princesses movies (which I still do) and I only can’t think of a favourite from five years ago. I remember really liked The Princess Diaries by Meg Cabot (I only read volume 1 and 3) about 3 years ago only? so….

Getting Back together: what book can you not stop rereading.

I’ve been in a reading slump for two months but I’ve just finished Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets which I couldn’t stop reading and effortlessly got me out of my slump. Like it’s so good even though it’s a reread. I cracked up hundred of times and there were also the intensity which I lurrrrvvvv.

Wedding: A book that is really special to you.

Cannot choose? Did you just say ‘a book’? Is this supposed to be a question? -.-

Moment of Triumph: Longest book you’ve ever read

The award goes to…..

870 pages of addicting awesomeness and magical read.

Death Scene: Book or series you wish had ended differently.

whyyyyyyyyyy. Can’t it be more satisfying? I completely understand the realistic ending and stuffs but ><

Funeral: Book with the best or worst epilogue.

It’s one those I-need-the-sequel- ASAP-or-I-wont-survive kind of ending.

End Credits: Who do you tag?

I tag….

So thank you for reading, bookworms!

I’ll see you next time 😀

Merry Christmas (I’m super excited for X’Mas :D),

Kimsiang @ TheSpinesBreaker

Hi, friends!

It’s been a very tough week, with all the monthly exams and presentation. That’s the worst of them all. I feel so relieved now, and it’s a holiday even ! Perfect time 😀

Today is the first day of Water Festival, a traditional festival in Cambodia, and it lasts for 3 days. Time to read!

I was tagged by Aldii from Perfection In Books to do this very interesting tag that was created by the Sky Blue Team, and I can’t wait to answer all the questions!

Let’s get started! 😀

“The Night We Said Yes” ~ A time you felt like you were on top of the world and could do anything.

Adventure! I love adventure and road trips. You know when your on the car, and you open the rooftop, and you go up there and it’s like you’re being attacked by the wind but that’s all you want to do (right now) (anybody caught the Troye Sivan’s reference? No? It’s lame? Okay.) just live the moment? That’s what I’m talking about.

P.S. I’ve never read this book but is it about adventure? Take the risk kindof book? Count me in. 😉

“Twilight” ~ Describe a time you were irrationally in love with someone or something when you know you shouldn’t have been.

I’ve never been in love. I’m underage, okay? Lol Joking (The underage are not supposed to be in love part) I mean ofc I love my family but that’s not irritating. But something? It’s frustrating I like to eat this much. -.-

P.S. I have never read Twilight? I’m not in love in Twilight.

“Beautiful Disaster” ~  A place or person that you can call home.

My house. My family. Hogwarts. Library. and yeah.

P.S. I’ve never read beautiful Disaster.

“Fangirl” ~ Talk about what you love most. Your favorite things, people, books whatever.

Let’s talk about food. It keeps you alive. It’s yummy. It’s everything. It shushes your growling stomach.

“Morrie” ~ Talk about who (outside of your family) has been the most influential person in your life.

I had to Google Morrie :/// but well, …

2mns later, I don’t know. I live by inspirational and motivational quotes and there are a lot of them and by different people? I’ll go with Walt Disney 😀

“The Giver” ~ Do you feel like our society now are headed in the direction (or are already in a state) of a Dystopia.

Woah. What is this question. Feels like this is taken from my course book, the critical thinking part -.-

I think yes, we are already in a Dystopia world. I’m not even going to try to explain. Don’t mess with my brain please.

“Harry Potter” ~  Describe a moment where you felt like you where exactly where you were supposed to be, a moment where you felt on the right path.

All my life, I have always crave adventure, to go somewhere. anywhere. I’ve always want to get out of Cambodia. See the world and stuffs.

But the moment I’d just forget about all the sadness, and the just want to leave feeling, when I just felt right would be when I’m traveling with my family. 🙂

“Carpe Diem” ~ Tell us about a person/experience that taught you to LIM (live in the moment)

and I googled Carpe Diem. It means Enjoy the moment. Seize the day. That is an awesome phrase 😀

It takes a lot for me to get out of my shell, and just live. It all happens this year, i dont know, i kinda think life is a pointless cycle. And why stress our selves out with things we makes us unhappy. So just do what you want to do and be happy i guess.

I would have to give the credit to Pinterest, for opening my eyes and sharing all the quotes with me. Lol

And that’s it! that was very fun! This is a very different tag!

Since it was so fun, I’m gonna tag all of you so that we can share the fun 🙂

Thank you so much for reading, guys!

See you next time 🙂

Happy Reading,

As a coffee addict, I think this would be a very cool tag and *sipping my Iced Cappuccino* I can’t wait to answer the questions! I discovered this on Analee’s blog, BookSnacks.

Let’s have fun!

1. Black: Name a series that’s tough to get into but has hardcore fans.

…thoughts: blank…..woah I can’t think of anything….well,…..ohh I got one I got one. So I have just read the first book and I was disappointed because the hype! This series has soooo many fans which was why I bought it but I have a review here.

2. Peppermint mocha: Name a book that gets more popular during the winter or a festive time of year.

I haven’t read both of them but I have them sitting on my shelf now xD Can not wait for winter this year! So sad Cambodia doesn’t snow UGHHH (okay that’s abit off topic, sorry :((()

3. Hot chocolate: What is your favorite children’s book?

Well I don’t have much to choose from but this is pretty hilarious 😀

4.Double shot of espresso: Name a book that kept you on the edge of your seat from start to finish.

This is getting very repetitive. GIMME SOME SUPER ACTION MINDBLOWN BOOK So I can have other choices for this kind of question.

5. Starbucks: Name a book you see everywhere.

Lately, Carry On by Rainbow Rowell. Not that I have anything against that! I’m super excited for my copy which I haven’t placed an order on yet. :(((

6. That hipster coffee shop: Give a book by an indie author a shoutout.

I dont know.. :///

7. Oops! I accidentally got decaf: Name a book you were expecting more from.

Gotta choose this one.

8. The perfect blend: Name a book or series that was both bitter and sweet but ultimately satisfying.

:DDDD A review/discussion here.

And that was it! Thank you so much for reading! This is a pretty old tag, so I figured people must have done it. But if you haven’t, do it! It was fun!
